Hard to say which audiences this is going to appeal to.
On the one hand, they're trying to lower the entry barrier for new gamers: By designing the "overworld" similar to NSMBWii's classic approach.
On the other hand they said the game is going to be harder than Galaxy 1, assuming that most players will have developed their skills playing the first game.

I HOPE it will be huge. SMG1 should have had sales on par with NSMBWii.

Metacritic: I don't think it will be rated as good as SMG1, simply because most reviewers will deduct points for being less innovative. Prepare to read the following sentence a hunderd times:
"It's a blast, bursting with ideas and endless hours of pure unadulterated fun (...) still, it fails to wow us quite like the first one did, and we can't help but feel that Nintendo is being a bit lazyblablabla... 8/10"
