What you hear has little to do with the actual state of things and the state of brands! Nintendo brand recognition is only about 20% behind Sony as an entire company. The state of Nintendo's brand is one of the most valuable in the entire world! The playstation brand by itself does not compare, and things you hear from a guy have diddly to do with it. The DS hasn't just outsold the PSP and PS3 combined (though yes, this matters quite a lot). In the timeframe since late-year 2004 it has outsold the PS3, the PSP, and the PS2, combined! Once we include the Wii (because you included the Nintendo name here, and yes, the Wii is part of the Nintendo brand and contributes to Nintendo's brand value) it becomes even more of a bizarre one-sided ostracization of the Playstation family whereby the defense of their continued relevance in comparison to the Nintendo brand becomes more and more an exercise in futility. I don't care what Nintendo fans think! Contrary to what one may think, the opinions of people on video game message boards have dick all to do with larger scopes of brand name value and recognition! And yes, I'm suggesting that individual games had more to do with the dominance of "Playstation culture" than the Playstation name itself, whereas that was not true with the NES in the 80's. |
I think what i hear and see has a lot to do with things actually. Like i said, if the Nintendo name was more well known, i would see and hear more about it from people and on the TV, in Movies, in Music... Not just "a guy".
When people talk about the Wii, they don't talk about Nintendo. They simply talk about "Wii". While the Wii is part of Nintendo... They don't immediately think "Nintendo". When they think PS... They straight think and know "PlayStation". They straight up dominated for over a decade, the very same decade where gaming became mainstream worldwide.
And as for the bolded. If those games made the PS name popular, it doesn't really matter... As the PS brand still became the largest in gaming. SO i don't see your point at all.
