And tastes differ, not everyone likes the same thing. But if I'm playing a singleplayer game, I need something to keep me going, which can be a) great gameplay or b) great story. A great atmosphere helps too. I'm about 3 hours into Metroid Prime, and I have found none of those, and I'm really having a hard time wanting to go on. It's just not catching on.

By a large margin, yes, but they still need to be quality games (obviously).
Multiplayer can sway me into getting a shorter singleplayer (Killzone 2 for example, although I wish I had waited until the price dropped a bit), but that's generally it. The only multiplayer I actively want and seek out is local coop and Guild Wars.
