I don't think it is right to call a game a success for hitting one million when its

- A game from a massive selling series
- It took an entire year to reach one million
- Most of those sales were after it was declared to underperform and shops were selling it for about 30% of its release price only a few weeks after release (a bargain bin game).

Neither is it right to call it terrible for just hitting one million when it's:

  • Losing the full 3D control which is when the series when from a few million to massive selling
  • It has an art style atypical to the series, which makes people look like blobs with the perspective
  • Doesn't even feel like the 3D GTA games overall

So even if it's not a smashing success, it's not terrible. It had just as many things against it as were for it. Brand name alone can't sell a product when it's the brand name plus the associations that sell a product. CW lost those associations.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
