You also have to factor in the blue ocean strategy here, many devs are still too used to the red ocean approach that we've been used to since the NES and will cling to it until they're forced to try and adapt to the blue ocean approach properly as in actually being competitive as well as putting in effort rather then just releasing a game any how of debatable quality. Think of it as fish in a stream that's gradually drying up and rather then move to the ocean while they still can many are staying put.
Many try to complain it's hard to make money against Nintendo but I think it's an excuse for them to explain why they don't even try. |
I don't think its them not trying. That's more of the attitude many companies here in the west are taking. Putting weak casual titles on the Wii like 'Carnival Games' and 'My Sims Agents' on the system and then whining that some of their other more 'core' titles that they quote 'tried on' don't sell as well.
In Japan, they're simply focused entirely on handhelds and being completely up front about putting their weaker titles on the Wii. I mean, look at the actual companies putting the 'must have' products on the Wii. Aside from Capcom and SquareEnix, who do we have? Small development groups putting their entire funds on the line to bring us games like Little King's Story, Oopona and Muramasa. And some not getting their investment back, as was the case for Little King's Story.
We just gotta face the facts. The DS is sucking the attention away from the Wii in Japan. And the 'HD consoles' is sucking the attention away from the Wii in the west.
