(Note, I consider 1st party anything Nintendo/Sony exclusively publish WW even though most people on this forum call that 2nd party. However, considering they are exclusively publishing it, they should be treating it like a 1st party game with investments and quality)
Nintendo 1st party games mostly end in a 1st day buy. They are the best of the best. There are a few flops, but almost all their games are spectacular. I would rate almost all of their games better than the equivilent of any other dev. No one has matched 2D or 3D platforming, SRPGs, Kart Racing, Zelda like adventure, or half the genres they make.
Sony 1st party games typically don't interest me nearly as much as Nintendo games, but they are very good and always worth looking into. Sony games seem to be the best games on the PS3, and they seem to be doing their best job ever. My only real gripe isn't with the quality of the games, but the types of games they choose to make. I'd rather they make "family friendly" and less story driven games more focused on the gameplay. Understand that this doesn't mean kiddy games, but Valkyria Chronicles is family friendly and very fun. God of War 3 is not. Ratchet & Clank is family friendly, Heavy Rain isn't. I enjoy games that I can enjoy with everyone and Sony doesn't always provide that type of content. As for story driven, I enjoy the occasional story, but I also love games like NSMBWii where there is essentially no story and it is all about playing the game. LBP is probably the closets it comes from Sony but it isn't nearly as challenging as 2D Mario.
