| RolStoppable said: Dragon Quest VII and VIII were PlayStation exclusives and there were almost 15 years between VI on the SNES and IX on the DS, making this a case of a franchise moving from one platform holder to another one. It didn't hurt the sales of IX. IX could be ported to the PSP for example and make up the cost like a hypothetical port of X, but why should Square-Enix do that if the DS and Wii games already make enough profit in the first place? Additionally, Nintendo is marketing IX and X in the West, that benefit would likely be lost if the games went multiplatform. In the end, there's more to gain for S-E by keeping the games exclusive. |
I would also add, that the franchise hit a new high in Japan due to leaving sony platform and going to nintendo.
I been told by others, that when Final Fantasy IX was coming out, some people were saying that it should go to the PSP, or that this is a wrong move on Square Enix. I bet someone could link threads like that, but really it is almost the exact discription of this thread.
