The industry desperately wans to neutralize Nintendo, just as they did Sega(with their own help). Reason why is because they prefer companies who only make the technology and follow their lead on software.
They want to not have to compete with a strong first party because it gives them a bigger market. But mainly, that way they can better control the standard of gaming the way they want.
