First of all - how the hell do you get the idea that remote vieuwing without consent is even legal?

Secondly, why the hell would you do that? In case of theft? There are better measures against that - a simple password would suffice.

Thirdly - Why would you so blatantly mention that you check out people remotely? What where they thinking? That it was going to be A-Ok to spy in people's rooms?

For all I care they can sue the school into the ground hopefully preventing this to ever happen again.

hopefully they never give out another computer again. I don't like paying for bratty kid x's personal laptop when the public library or family PC would suffice. /rant

EDIT: did you know that in NY we get a tax break because NY State thinks we pay too much in school tax?
