10 year console still in demand...hats off to that. I don't think Sony would make a move like that. If the demand goes down, then only we can expect PS2 to die out completely. The shortages might be intended for some other purpose. Well for the demand and supply chain right now PS3 needs to survive it to keep the sales pace steady or again expect lower sales. Europe and Japan are facing less crisis on this chain.
