well the slowing of momentum is a fact... not sure why anyone here is tryingto say it isnt so. And saying its still above WW week after week is true, but its a shrinking gap. It sisnt so long agio that people were saying the slim would be so far ahead that the lifetime gap would fall quickly... that is simply not going to happen at the current rates.

PS3 and 360 may be almost identical in weekly sales soon....

                   PS3   XBOX 360 Difference
03-01-10  508373 311534     39%
10-01-10  289889 196978     32%
17-01-10  211584 153358     28%
24-01-10  198645 153467     23%
31-01-10  205661 167155     19%
07-02-10  171131 147850     14%

the gap is falling every week.

Need to take into account Mass Effect 2 boost + PS3 shortages in NA with those numbers dont we?

And when will we see your next thread about the gap. The one with the "how long it takes for ___ to overtake ___"?

It still stuck at 1.2 years based on the last 3 and 6 months.... and about 3 years based on the last 12 months... so unless things change it would be about 2 years I think as clearly the slim boost wont happen again.

No thread + Charts?

And the slim boost could happen again. All it would take would be $199 PS3. Possibly with a true "Slim" release/ colours.

Not in the next 1.2 years it wont.  No, the gap will close (if it does) in 2012 earlierst and by then we will all be drooling over leaked PS4/720 specs... and looking at 360 and PS3 both heading towards 60 millions install base... would it actually matter by then?

$50 cut with colours + GT5 this holiday would probably give the same momentum (or close to) as the Slim.

As for if mattering. Not really. But its still bragging rights for the companies. Im sure MS would rather say "We finished 2nd last gen" or "We won the HD war", rather than "We came 3rd, but..."
