Yeah, Diamond/Pearl was when I finally came into the battling scene (as opposed to earlier gens where I just played it, beat it... and then used some sort of cheat to boost my rare candy count. 
) and there were a lot of great changes made during generation IV, the most important (to me at least) was how attacks and special attacks are no longer based on type (this helps out Dark Pokemon so much. 
). Plus, it was great to see evolutions of previous gen Pokemon so that they weren't obsolete anymore (yay for Honchkrow!).
All in all, Diamond/Pearl made some great steps for the series (and their Pokemon designs weren't as bad as Ruby/Sapphire's ). Hopefully gen V continues this. ^_^
