I know this is a joke, but do you know why we have regulations that say that football players have to wear all that padding?
Due to the nature of contact in the sport, before they standardized padding people died playing it, often enough that it was considered something of an epidemic. The way these guys hit each other would be suicidal and/or murderous without some very serious protection.
