Going solely based on manufacturer is JUST PLAIN DUMB. Sony, samsung,panasonic,sharp, LG and phillips all make some really good models and some really DUD ones.
To me, the best TV i have ever seen yet is the KURO. I'd check out CNET, HD beat etc and get some reviews. If your looking at 3D gaming. Hold on. Prices for LCD's fall faster than a brick off the big ben. Last thing you wanna do is purchase a set that is "relatively" obsolete in a year.
I'd wait for the newer HDMI standard. If you can connect to a PC LCD.. gr8. I'd spend on a cheaper LCD right now.. anything for under 200 Euros- and wait for the boffins at the 3D-TV-Bluray camp to get their socks sorted...

a. a AAA 3D sonic title
b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"
c. redesgined PS controller
d. SEGA back in the console business
e. M$ out of the OS business
