In fact, it goes beyond liking least. I dislike it. I've finished and greatly enjoyed all the other ones, but I dislike TTYD so much that I'm 2 chapters in and have no plans on finishing it. I find it that bad.
I enjoyed the quests in Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario, but I absolutely hate the tasks in TTYD.
On a design level, it's crystal clear it's an extension of Paper Mario. Additional elements were thrown in, and are executed well, but sometimes it felt that those elements were added just so it isn't exactly N64 Paper Mario with updated graphics. Elegence gone.
I have no plans to purchase SMG whatsoever as it's "too 3D", but TTYD is more like my least favorite Mario game ever. |
Phail at life. Chapter 3 is where it gets good! |
We'll talk after you've tried the original Paper Mario and Super Paper Mario :)
Tastes differ, of course. For instance, I don't like the characters in TTYD. I find them a little creepy. The Opera Lady, Koops with self-esteem issues, the Computer that likes to peep when Peach takes a shower. When I was playing, I felt that these characters were designed to gear towards teenagers more than anybody else, whereas the original Paper Mario has a more common denominator.
My wife is further along, now in Chapter 6. I've watched her play from time to time but still don't have much of an interest in finishing up the game. She also agrees it's not as good as the original but still likes it a lot more than I do.
So yeah, tastes differ.
