News and Games being combined is a debate in itself. If you look at most of the big games site they are trying to become more and more like blogs - IGN, 1up, GamePro have all recently redesigned and have a main blog list now on the homepages.

Personally, I'm not sure if it works. For me, news stories are fast-moving and regularly updated (maybe 20-30 per day) so the blog format works well - you can check a couple of times per day and catch up on all the latest stories, with the most popular ones listed at the top.

For things like reviews and previews (original pieces basically), cheats, screenshots, other game database style stuff - it has a much longer shelf life. A review is still relevant weeks and months later but as part of a blog I think it gets lost too quickly. That's not to say we can't have a box on the game site with latest headlines from the blog site, but I like the idea of having two seperate sites...

If you do that, it would be really cool.

I just always thought a games site would have -- reviews, previews, news, game database. Possibly a seperate page for news updates.

So couldn't the news section just have a seperate blog page on the same site (say called VGplay) instead of directing you to a sub site with a  different heading altogether.

Obviously you know whats best for the site, but I thought having news, previews, reviews on 1 site would be quite cool.

you could always make a poll on this
