NPD will release its data for the USA video game market over the five weeks ending January 2, 2010 at about 6:30 PM EST (a little less than five hours from now). We should also get some stats for the year 2009 as a whole.
Nintendo and Sony have already issued some press-releases for the period.
Nintendo
" We think we sold over 3m Wiis in December" (probably 3.1m/3.2m)
" DS set an all time yearly record for a hardware system in the USA (i.e. it sold at least 2.2m to get the record, but less than 3.0m since you'd have to think Nintendo would issue a different statement for DS if it was above Wii or 3m again)"
Sony
" PS3 had its best month ever in the USA. We sold 90% more than last December" (~1.35m ish is likely)
It was also an excellent month for software - we estimate that over 160 games sold over 100,000 units in the United States.
