You're right, this is maybe the most important thing to do... but why could they not do everything? Create new teams is a must when you only have 4000 employees, so true, but if they also buy some talented 2nd parties and make some deals with the best 3rd parties, then the line-up will GREATLY improve, in both quantity and quality, and in close future as well as in distant future (which then means, next gen)... I'd like to see a less "passive" Nintendo anyway... they're givin' the impression to be glad with their own sales, and to no commit to anything happening in the industry around them: i'd wish to see a Nintendo tryin' to associate more and more people to their success, not only the very small indie teams on Wiiware and DSiware, but also some bigger teams (not the other giants, the ones "in between") on the retail market... They have made nearly 20 billions of profits in the last 5 years, i just hope they'll make a great use of these to prepare the future, not only their own future, but also the future of the industry, especially in Japan where things are gettin' critical due to a population gettin' older and a shrinking market... It's nice to know that Yamauchi-san (owner of 51% of Nintendo's shares) is now one of the richest man in Japan, but if that's the only good thing about Nintendo making billions, then i see no reason to care, AT ALL... i hope you see my point... :) |
Well, it's not like they haven't bought any in the past. They already bought Monolith (working on Monado) this generation, and they have good working relationships with lots of 2nd/3rd party devs. I'm not saying don't work with 3rd parties, but rather don't buy them, and build your own teams. Also they should start more efforts like Metroid Other M, which is a Nintendo + Team Ninja effort, rather than just buying Team Ninja.
All buying 3rd parties does is force the games to be Nintendo exclusive, but building new teams both opens up jobs, and increases the number of games we receive. Also, they can be very agressive in their hiring rather than their buying. Everyone cries over Microsoft buying up their competition, but for some reason we want Nintendo to.
