I could be wrong but I suspect that a mod falls more in line with violating a copyright than violating a trademark being that most mods involve modifying an existing product while reusing copyrighted material. There are some significant differences between copyrights, trademarks and patents and (I could be wrong on this) I believe that if you hold a copyright or patent you own it regardless of if you legally defend it or not; whereas a trademark needs to be protected or it is legally indefensible. |
And this is why I never studied law, lol. I think my point still stands when it comes to the Half-Life fan-made movie.
