GoW is a huge brand I think it's bigger than Gears of War, just wait and see.

I'd say they're about even, if we're talking quality. Obviously, sales will favor Gears, unless God of War III does 5-6mill, which is unlikely.

Quality is subjective........how big a brand is is strictly how much it sells.

You're preaching to the choir. Sales is another matter and I can see God of War being considered as big a brand as Gears. A topic for another thread though, IMO.

Why so? No, God of War doesn't sell Gears like numbers, at least it hasn't to date. What God of War III does is anybody's guess. I just know it is one of the most anticipated games of 2010, as Gears of War III would be if it were announced for a release this year. Gears will probably always beat it in sales, but is it as bg a franchise as God of War? After all, Kratos is one of the most recognized faces in the industry.

That's why I say sales play a big part in popularity, that goes without saying. But I think God of War can compete with Gears on that level, despite the lower sales.

You said it yourself that you dont see GOW 3 passing 4 mil so let me ask you this.......why do you believe one game you dont see passing 4 mil have just as much brand recognition as a game that could easily pass 5 mil and even go up to 6 mil?

If there was a tier system for brands Gears would definitely be in the first tier with the likes of GT , Halo , GTA , MW , Mario and MGS while GOW would be in the second tier with Uncharted , Mass Effect , Fallout etc.

The fact of the matter is is that Gears is definitely a bigger brand than GOW and quite frankly I cant take someone seriously who believes otherwise.

Well, can't change how you feel. I just think God of War is a bigger brand than it receives credit for. When a game is considered THE most anticipated game of the year, so far, that's hardly something to scoff at. Everyone has their own opinion though, and in mine, I think God of War can hang with the likes of Gears. Is it bigger than Gears, no probably not. I consider them even, and if anything, feel that Kratos is a more known character than Marcus Fenix.

But as I said, my opinion and a topic for another thread.

I really dont know how to get through to you CGI but you right this isnt the thread for this discussion so ill leave you with this.....Gears 1 sold 6.00mil while GOW 1 sold 3.21 mil , both these games are the highest selling in their respective series' and Gears 1 almost has double the sales of GOW 1.

If a game doubles your sales you definitely dont have the same brand recognition as it.

 

Then tell me, how can people argue that Halo is a bigger franchise than Gran Turismo, when going by your metric, it is in fact not? How can people say that Dragon Quest is bigger than Final Fantasy?

Im not other people and I know what it takes to have a bigger brand and that is more sales....
