A bit overhyped yes, but no too much

Gameplay is exactly the same as in Uncharted 1. It's just a bit longer and has multiplayer.

But hardly the game of the gen or something I hear so often from enthusiastic PS3 fans.

Disagree.

OT: Nope, I can't say that it is. I think it deserved all the hype it got. Then again, i don't really think many games are "overhyped", but some are overrated, in which case again, i don't think Uncharted 2 is one of them.

Care to explain what was different ?

Let's see:

A. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune had no stealth, at all.

B. The platforming, while pretty much the same, was more dynamic and frequent.

C. The way grenades are tossed was completely different.

For things to be "exactly the same", the game play would have to remain unchaenged. Uncharted 2 plays different than Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, though they are still very similar.

Reminds me of when people claimed Gears of War 2 was exactly the same as the first. It wasn't, the speed of the game alone made it feel different, even if it was similar to the first one.

A) Never tried stealth in the first game. Maybe it was possible, but because the game didn't hint it nobody actually tried it ?

It's not like you can beat the game without been seen at all. So yeah I correct myself the game is 95% identical gameplay wise.

B) As for the platforming parts, there were some chapters in the first game where you jumped and climbed more than in other chapters and I don't see the difference here. The platforming mechanics are the same.

C) Thank god they changed that, but honestly that's just saying the gameplay is totally different because they added a new weapon. It may be true, but that hardly makes any difference and should be besides that a standard for sequels.

Carl made a better point though. The change of the camera angle is a much better addition to the game than anything you said. (I guess that was what he meant with "aiming") I can't see how the cover mechanics or the shooting has improved though.

It's been a while since I've played Gears and Gears 2, but yeah AFAIR they were the same gameplay wise.

A) Stealth was not possible in the first

B) One giant addition to gameplay was the fact that you could shoot WHILE platforming. In the first there were two sections, shooting, and platforming. In the second they are mixed as well which changes up the game quite a lot.

C) Already been said

D) Melee Fighting system was switched up (though I liked the first games brutal combo better)

E) Cover Mechanics were improved to allow sliding into cover, knocking objects over to create cover, remaining in cover while turning corners(might be in the first but I never saw it happen)

I'm pretty sure I did that already in the first game.

Never used hand to hand combat in the first, because I think it sucks.

Anyway the differences are so minor that it doesn't matter A true change in gameplay can only be seen when playing Killzone 1 and then Killzone 2 afterwards or Burnout Revenge and then Burnout Paradise.

Uncharted series has the same gameplay, Gears of War series has the same gameplay, Call of Duty series the same gameplay and so on.
