Torillian said: well here's a counter argument. Demon's Souls has more in common with Kingdom Hearts than any wRPG. It's an action RPG with a linear story, a central hub, several worlds you visit with their own backgrounds and stories. Unlike your common wRPG there is minimal power over the story with really only a major choice near the end and there is no conversation system. edit: furthermore, the combat system that is all about melee combat and locking onto your adversaries has more in common with Zelda than a wRPG. |
Well in that case, perhaps we shouldn't be so quick to classify Kingdom Hearts as a JRPG...
...in either case, I haven't played much of Kingdom Hearts, but if it has a lot in common with Demon's Souls, then it is, imho, a very deep and pure WRPG with a lot of fun to be had, as well as some tremendous difficulty.
King's Field, imho, is a WRPG as well, from the same developers, and it was one of the first games I ever bought with my own money. It is in NO WAY relatable to a JRPG.
...but again, I'm not a big Kingdom Hearts player, so I can't refute or agree with anything you've mentioned. From what you've stated, I think KH sounds a lot like an Adventure game....however, lol, imho, Demon's Souls is a WRPG, at the heart of its gameplay. Again, though, saying it's a game that is like many other JRPGs is a valid argument, saying that it is a JRPG because it's made by Japanese people, is not.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
