Based on aligned launches which apparently makes the consoles sales war fair.
1. PS3 is selling 53,000 more than the 360 every week on average in the Japan and Others regions. Japan and Others regions Sony is seen as superior to Microsoft and relies heavily on its former glory of the PS1/PS2. JRPGs and popular established franchises maintain PS3s edge over the 360 in weekly sales in these two regions. The gap between Sony and Microsoft has narrowed considerably when comparing the previous console generation to the present console generation.
Japan: PS3 sells 5 systems to every 1 360 system sold in weekly sales. Last generation 25 PS2s were sold to one XBox in weekly sales.
Others: PS3 sells 3 systems to every 2 360 systems sold. Not much a difference but a win is a win. Last generation the PS2 sold considerably more than the XBox. Ratio of around 20 PS2s sold to every XBox sold. The 360s UK success of this generation keeps the battle close with PS3 in Others region. 5 million 360s have reportedly been sold in UK alone this generation.
2. 360 is selling 24,500 more than the PS3 ever week on average in the North American region. FPS games on 360 and XBox Live combined with Microsoft marketing campaigns on home soil keeps the 360 above the PS3 in weekly sales. North America region keeps the 360 competitive with the PS3 and ensures that there will be a third XBox next generation. 20 million XBox 360s have been reportedly sold in North America. 360 sells 4 systems to every 3 PS3 sold in weekly sales.
3. Overall PS3 is selling 28,500 more than the 360 every week on average in worldwide sales. Resulting in 1.5 million more PS3s have been sold worldwide than XBox 360s.
4. Wii has been the run away success story this generation. The Wii has sold at a faster rate than the PS2 of last generation and it should easily break 100 million sales within 5 years. A feat which took the PS2 over 6 years to accomplish. The Wii sales are well ahead of both PS3 and 360 sales combined in all three sales regions: Japan, Others and North America.
5. Nintendo leads the way with innovation by bringing something new to the table with the motion control device which has revolutionised the video game industry. The PS3 and X360 have stuck to their usual formula and focused mainly on online and best graphics in video games.
