First off, NES third party situation wasn't as rosey as people like to make it out to be in hindsight. There's something of a revisionist history going on with the NES. Western third parties like EA refused to put games on it and its outdated tech. In fact the majority of NES third party support came towards the end of its life.
As for the OP, I agree with it. Wii was created as a new age NES..a disruptor. All the criticisms the Wii gets now the NES got then..just look it up, its there. Words like Fad were being used against the NES, it had a strange input device unlike other gaming machines (which became standard for the next 20 yrs) NES was built with family interaction at its core..I mean it was called Famicom short for family computer.
History is indeed repeating itself, but not in exactly the same way. The funny thing is, the games that will be remembered as defining this Generation of consoles is not GTAIV or Uncharted or Halo 3 It will be Wii Sports or MK or NSMB. The other games will be forgotten by all but the most die hard fans. Much like the computer gamers of the NES era were.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
