The comment is rather ambiguous, we are left unclear whether he is voicing his own opinion or what he feels is the common perception.
There does seem to be somewhat of a resurgence of 2D at the moment particularly on the Wii but there are still plenty of people that feel 2D games are still less worthy of their hard earned cash. Hopefully this perception can change, both forms have their advantages and they should be able to happily coexist on a single console.
