Not a chance. Sure, 2D Mario sells more than 3D Mario does and I'm sure it generates more profit, but if Nintendo only cared about what sells the most then Metroid would have died a very long time ago.
Nintendo would axe all of their franchises besides 2D Mario, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. and Pokémon before they axe 3D Mario. Yes, even Zelda.
