You've got a point but I don't think FPS games are quite as accessible as people seem to think they are. Some people just can't get their head around the perspective and feel nauseous after 30 mins playing. Other people have difficulty with the controls whether, PC, dual analog or motion control.
A better example would probably be the GTA games, easy to get into and anyone can just pick up and play. But difficult to master/complete with all the missions and extras.
