10 billion$ is  less than the profit MS makes in a single year :p( they made 3.57 billion$ last quarter).

They have a cash pile of around 25 billion$ now too...

Yes, but it doesn't do to keep taking money from profitable divisions of a company and dumping them into non-profitable ones,  some people don't like it. 

If Microsoft's entertainment division asked to have 20 billion for R+D, marketing and games development for the next gen to put Sony and Nintendo away once and for all, I'm pretty sure they would be told to get stuffed by the rest of MS.
