I strongly disagree with you, because I think sony was effective in other means before, than online advertisement. If anything online advertisement might ruin the product as individuals have negative feelings towards some online advertisement.
Sony was really effective in creating a strong image and word of mouth...currently that image is somewhat in recovery state.
