After watching a gameplay video, I have to say that it's likely that the DS games are very different from the HD games therefore limiting their appeal. Also they can be perceived as afterthoughts as the HD games are getting the advertisement, the hype, and the reviews while these games seem to fade into obscurity.
Pixel Art can be fun.
