ok i did, they said it was a hard disk failior, they will repair it for free. but does this mean i loose all my data? also they said i might be able to exchange it for another system. (i have the phat though so im not sure how this will work)

All your save files are lost. Did you ever made a backup?

nope, i never thought my ps3 would break as my ps1 works perfectly fine, it seems like sony went down in quality over the years :(
