I have a hard time believing it was a software production issue. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Japan SMG has only sold around half of it's initial retailer shipment of 700,000 so far. But I guess they could've underestimated the demand in Europe as well as overestimated it's demand in Japan.

Either way, software production is one area where Nintendo should not have f'ed up in. It's their bread and butter, their core business. It's not like sales have been so massive for SMG (where we have numbers) that such a shortage would be understandable. What's going on at Nintendo, and with the Wii userbase?

Or shops just didn't orderd as many as needed. High manager of game shops have no clue about games, but they have a clue about game sales. So far the Wii wasn't excactly a software mover, and I could think that they played save and didn't order much from Nintendo, and are now sitting duck, because they are out. Sounds reasonable to me.

That's right.

Remember - its NOT Nintendo doing the ordering - its retailers. Maybe they saw what happened with Galaxy in Japan, and got scared.

Its also Xmas, and there is also a HUGE number of big titles out. They might be likely to be more conservative on Galaxy, and just spread their orders. In the end - a sellout wouldn't bother them too much (just order more, and off they go). Its titles that DON'T sell that scare them.

I actually have a similar reasoning for R&C sales, which I think is quite plausible. It may also be that some publishers are doing "harder yards" in retailer promotion, which in turn results in more of their software being picked up.

...

Here is a question for you all - if Galaxy was available exclusively as a WiiWare download (ignoring the size impracticalities) - how many sales would it do WW, in the first week? A couple of million? (assuming lots of advertising, etc...).

If true - this all points to another reason why manufacturers want to go digital downloadable. Or maybe next time, Ninty will just keep its BIG titles away from the Xmas rush. Its been a real mess this year. Thank god Brawl isn't being released in 2 weeks... :P
