Welcome to last year when the 360 had it's price cut and the same thing happened in terms of sales

Actually, in terms of hardware moved, Sony's price cut / redesign has had a lot more dramatic effect than the 360's 2008 cut so far.  Both price cuts happened in the first week of September and these are the totals post price cut to now or the equivalent week in 2008:

PS3 2009: 3,353,078

360 2008: 2,268,821

This means Sony has pushed almost 50% more hardware on the PS3 price cut than Microsoft did with the 360 last year.

Another number of interest is how the non-cut console did / is doing during the same period:

PS3 2008: 1,745,616

360 2009: 1,883,572

Here the 360's numbers are better than PS3, but before the Wal-Mart deal and MW2 bundles, it was actually behind the PS3's 2008 sales.

Above, I said the PS3's cut has been more dramatic so far because the 360's price cut effect was a bit of a slow burn last year and really started to have an effect during the holidays.  It remains to be seen how well the PS3 will compare to 360 '08 from Black Friday onward.
