You might very well be right. Trying to figure out whether more content or features is worth funding or not is some kind of alchemy, and Nintendo has their own arcanists doing the best they can. Personally, I don't think that more content would have been worth it for Punch-Out!!. I love the game, and I would love more fights, but I just don't think the game has a very broad appeal. I consider myself lucky that the franchise got revived at all. I wouldn't have minded if the multiplayer got replaced with an extra fighter or two, though. NSMBW, on the other hand, should have gotten the online treatment, IMO. I think a good online mode contributed to Mario Kart Wii's incredible sales, and a similar mode in NSMBW would have yielded substantially more sales, even beyond the 10+ million it's sure to sell. |
yea, for NSMBWii, miyamoto said that he wanted to focus on players playing face to face, but an online component really could not have hurt. i mean really, i like playing mario face to face, and i agree with miyamoto, but an online aspect would be fun too. sometimes i dont have other people to play with. also, it would make being a terrorist in the game so much more fun when youre doing it to unsuspecting players who you dont know. the possibilities are endless.
for punch out, i also feel lucky that they even revived it, but i feel like more effort could have been put into advertising and hyping the game up. instead, they just announced it so us internet people can freak out and they made it pretty much a mike tyson's punch out clone. super punch out was its own game, but this game is pretty much just a MT Punch out clone. but hey, at least its a start.
