While it may sound crazy to some that the definition Khuutra pointed out includes games such as Lair, have you considered how ridiculous it is using metacritic (of all websites) as being the definitive source for whether a game is "AAA" or not?
It means the following games would fit the "AAA" definition: smaller games such as World of Goo / Braid, ports such as Okami / Chrono Trigger DS, or remakes such as MP Trilogy / RE4 Wii.
More importantly, it means excluding some of the biggest games around, like some mentioned (MK Wii, WSR), as well as nearly the entire DS library (including NSMB). Let me name two more big ones, just to make my point here:
Diablo II.
Starcraft.
