For a 6ft run, you don't get much degradation at all and most people won't notice a difference. I'd still get HDMI as it is the same price.
I would play the game and enjoy it now and pick up another cable at my next earliest convenience. I happen to play the PS3 over at my in-laws on a SD TV and a SD TV would never stop me from enjoying a good game.
