@making: Yeah, I think that SE is still following their initial plan, which was support the PS3 the most, considering all the money and time they invested in the platform, so they knew which games they were going to bring to the PS3 in advance. Actually making a new engine for the Wii when the DS and PS3 both had engines ready and running would have increased the cost of making the game and it would have been a huge risk since the Wii didn't have much of an RPG fanbase.
But Nintendo may have offered themselves to pay for such engine and the advertising, so now costs would be really inferior to what they could have been on the PS3.
And as you said, the current trend of announcements is pointing at PS3 as the most relevant console for core gamers and most precisely JRPG's fans due to the variety and the amount of games. It will be interesting to watch if this was an isolated turn of events or if this is how the generation will end up being.
