The Wii was starting to dwindle down in sales at the moment of the announcement. It was obvious it was going nowhere but down last year at the time of the DQX announcement. None of the games that were released last year in the second half had a considerable effect and they needed to make sure that they were getting the biggest 3rd party game on the Wii as an incentive to other devs who doubted about the Wii. But still it wasn't enough and announcements never arrived and kept on going for the HD consoles.
Had they not moneyhatted (which is my opinion but I'm sure it happened that way) DQX would have probably ended being a PS3/HD game, like the vast majority of the games announced this year for home consoles.
