Well the length of anything such as this is always hard to determine. I mean even though 360 got sizable increases due to the $200 Arcade, the longevity of the boost was not that high. By the summer of 2009, it was getting back to where it was. Now after the Slim it is back to "old" levels. Something potentially similar could happen to PS3 where it goes through the holiday season strong and then slowly starts to wane like the 360 did.
However, I think the strongest thing against PS3 right now is getting through the holiday season. There's always the potential that because it had such a strong reaction to the price drop that come the holiday season it won't see similar increases. Basically the effect that all those who "wanted" to get one already got them. If you need a scenario check Japan's holiday season for PS3 after the 40gb. This is really the only scenario I'm seeing that could potentially cause something like this but I don't see it as likely right now.
Once we hit 2010 it'll be harder to gear what is going on as I see 2010 being on sales level comparable to that of 2008. Just give the magnitude of the software across all platforms and the new "stuff" coming out for all different consoles... we could see quite a resurgence in the gaming industry. Let's just see how these holidays play out first though.
