RE5 wasn't panned by critics, it has 86 on Metacritic. It's also sold extremely well. MGS is still the king of stealth games, both in sales and in reviews. GT and Forza may now be more or less equal quality-wise, but in terms of sales, Gran Turismo is FAR ahead.
Devil May Cry isn't good anymore, Final Fantasy has slowly declined in quality (or so I've heard). And Japan is beginning to make shooters, just look at Quantum Theory. It will flop, but that's besides the point. Japanese developers are realising that the Japanese console market is shrinking (for some reason), and they either need to make handheld games or appeal to Western tastes. Which is why Resident Evil, Gran Turismo and MGS sell better than Yakuza and Katamari Damancy.
