Love this movie... used to watch it religiously when I was a kid... definitely one of Tom Cruise's and Tim Curry's best movies! Although beware the so-called "Director's Cut" version of the film... some scenes are changed or removed, and the awesome Tangerine Dream soundtrack was entirely replaced with total crap.
And yes it is very Zelda-esque...especially the whole light/dark concept, just like ALTTP's Light and Dark world themes.
