Sony (LCD), Samsung (LCD, LED), Panasonic (plasma) for TV.

As for sound, Klipsch, Harman/Kardon, JBL, and Onkyo are all great. God help you if you fall into the Bose hype.

Edit: If you like Blue touch of color over red (I sure do!)

good, meh, good but not a fan, toss up (they make good receivers, don't know about the speakers) and Bose does suck to high heavens though.

Just be prepared to spend over $2k for a decent system from any of them + add the cost of a reciever. Even then and you are only scratching the surface in terms of quality. Anything less and you might as well buy Bose.

Anyways, there are some decent HTIB (Home Theater In a Box) systems for under $600, but the next jump up would be a speaker set for $600 and a cheap amplifier for $300.

You really need to give more information than "I'm looking for a TV and sound system" Even a rough budget would help peice something together along with what you would prefer focus to be on, visuals or sound quality. I know you said $1200 for a TV, but what is your goal for the sound system? Stereo, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1?

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
