Sweetness. You are a vocal one ... and that's good, but I have a rule of thumb - and that's if you are going to make a point, stick to it. Otherwise, folks will not take you seriously.
I definitely understand wanting a system to play those games - and I totally agree, I would end up buying a 60gb PS3 for the full BC. However, I am not impressed one bit by the current lineup - and the delays are making me rethink my future purchase altogether. It's not that I hate Sony - or even hate the PS3. I don't - but let Sony tell it, from E3 2005, it was going to be the second coming. And I was just sitting back ... watching the drama unfold. From 'RIDGE RACER!!!' to 'Big crab' to the target rendering of Motorstorm, I was like 'Hmmm ... let's see what's going to happen.'
As much as I would like to gamble, I am a journalist and small bizness man. I deal in risks - repairing MP3 players can go one or two ways fast. Either I get a good batch that I can repair and resell for uber profit, or I get a bad batch and have a tiny chance of recouping what I paid. The PS3 has tons of potential - but I am past the point of buying off potential. That's just me. Others are like 'I have confidence that the PS3 is going to own all' but I have the experience to see a lil farther down the road than most folks and not just at a console.
I for the life of me can't find the post, but there was a story online that talked about video game companies dominating. The interesting fact was - no console maker has dominated for 3 generations in a row. And that is how it's looking right now. History is not Sony's friend right now.
Maybe things will change - and the lineup will turn from ho-hum to stellar, but I honestly think - knowing what I know about the industry and the business world - folks will gladly take the easy route and focus on making games for the Wii and 360. It's a system they know and based on attach rates, the devs and publishers know they will have a great chance of making loot.
Glad you are considering my advice. I have made many a hasty decisions in my day - and I regret each one. I am a much better person now by delaying instant gratification.
