Could you at least tell us a few reasons why you've promoted mods, Naz? TheTruthHurts didn't have $50,000, so that can't be it.

If a user is fair and active in a forum that's specifically causing trouble I'll sometimes promote them.

If a user hasn't had any moderations but has a very long post history and is active and I need the help I'll sometimes promote them.

Every once-in-a-while I'll promote someone cause they asked and I feel like I can use the help, but that's not very common. Unless I happen to need the help at the time, asking will do no good.

That's pretty much it... mods are hired PRN.
