@trestres: I wasn't joking. The new sales package with WSR and WM+ is already out with the old price. There's not much sense for Nintendo to sell two kinds of packages, especially when they intend to create installbase for Wii Motion Plus.

If you think missing the sales targets is an issue in the eyes of a shareholder, what do you think missing the income target by billions then is? A shareholder is going to ask: "Mr. Iwata, you have millions of units unsold in the warehouse, why didn't you try to sell them?" and "I just decided not to" is a very bad answer if you intend to keep your job.

Last years strategy worked really well. It's the strategy this year that have been a problem. There wouldn't be any problems if Animal Crossing and Wii Music had been system sellers. First half of 2009 was bad with games releases for Nintendo and it's surprising we didn't have any kind of bigger name game before summer (unlike 2007 and 2008), which makes me suspect something have been delayed (possibly because of WM+), because i don't think Nintendo was counting on the New Play Control games.

So yes, the main reason that lead into dragging Wii sales, is the lack of appealing software. But the lack, or the sales target, isn't the reason that's forcing Nintendo cut the price, especially when WSR, Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros Wii have just/are coming out.
