reasons why many people don't care;

1. many people probably just use the speakers in their tv for sound, thus Stereo (or the Dolby thing that is supposed to immitate surround from 2 speakers) is the best you could get.
2. many seriously cannot tell the difference between surround and anything more, with the exception that various sounds come from different directions.
3. people like me find it irritating having different sounds from different speakers, i can cope with head/earphone stereo possibly because they are right next to the ear, so unless you have a particularly excellent surround set-up i would just put it on mono. (generally you have to have the right shaped room with all the speakers in the right places for it to work well)

I wasn't trying to, what's the term, "bash" (hating teh internetz speek) you by the way, i think what i put sounded like i was angry. 'twasn't.

The extra space on the Wii discs compared to GC is vastly more important for good sound than having Dolby True HD extra special 23.3 surround sound. edit; ^ distortion?...it certainly shouldn't be distorted, that has nothing to do with surround sound....you may have poor speakers, or maybe a fault in the Wii has occured. although the remote speaker is W@*& quality tbh...i will agree that distorts (i keep mine on low volume), but then that was the only thing i ever saw as a gimmick, so it has been above my expectations so far (LoZ TP used it pretty good) Oh yeah, at uni i use Mono too, my TV has one speaker which is strangely on one side (rather than on the front).....ignoring the quality of speaker, i can't tell the difference.
