Do we actually know this? I've heard the rumor floating around, but as far as I can tell that's really all it is: a rumor. I'd add that it also smells faintly of BS, and by "faintly" I mean "holy moly!"
For that reason, I vote Earthbound. Ogre Battle 64 is my runner-up though. For third place I'd love Mystical Ninja starring Goemon. $70 was a bit too steep for this humorous Zelda clone, but $10 would be a steal. Plus, it was hilarious!
