Killing someone while drunk should get at minimum 1 year in jail for similar reasons as illegally possessing a gun. Cars aren't bad, but they are the best way to kill someone and get away free. Better than guns. Change the laws a bit so drunk driving and killing someone gets a much harsher sentence and we're good. However, you have to make sure that truly accidental deaths don't get punished by jail time. For example, if I were to drive home tonight and get in a car accident (maybe not even my fault) I shouldn't go to jail for it. Rather taking defensive driving courses, license suspension and community service would be a much better fit if it is deemed that it was my fault because I wasn't paying attention to my driving.
Either way, the law lets famous people free as they can "inspire" youth. I read a case once where a minor committed a crime and was facing 6 months jail. Rather than make him serve now and miss out on football, the judge decided that it would be better for him to play football and miss the second half of the school year. In reality, the judges and courts need to realize that just because they do something "constructive" or are famous and "inspirational" doesn't mean that they shouldn't have to pay for their crimes in the same fashion that everyone else does.
