If Nintendo didn't exist, Rare would be a very different company. Donkey Kong Country "made" them, it paid for their massive, new HQ and got them dramatically higher budgets for their games. They went from an obscure developer to a developer that had the best funding and some of the most exposure in the world.
Nintendo was also the one that bought the rights to GoldenEye so Rare could develop it in the first place.
