i don't think two price cuts of $50 would be as good as the $100 price cut. How far apart would you make those price cuts? If they're too close together, then definitely there would be a lot of angry consumers (I think 1 year would be too short for consecutive price cuts). Also, could you imagine how "desperate" sony would seem to all the xbox fans... especially since the slim would sell decently.

Cutting the gap for second place by 4 million units by the end of the year is kind of crazy. If they can get GT5 out this year then maybe they could cut it by a third (I believe MS grew their lead by 2 million units last christmas so I think 2.7 with GT5 is possible).

Microsoft grew that lead after coming back from over a million behind over the year... last year (ms numbers) is something that I don't think Sony can match sales wise... the Playstation brand has been damaged significantly this generation and it's hard to see GT5 do GT3 number... certainly the brand of GT has seen some degradation though there will be some pent up demand for the first on the PS3.  I still think that 300 bucks will hold Sony's holiday number to the 300-600k/wk range... they may see another big week, but I don't expect that they'll be turning up 7 million console this holiday season... that's assuming MS does 3 million and I just don't think that their brand has that kind of power... at best they bring the lead back down to 6 million and depending on how next year rolls out that could keep shrinking or Microsoft could completely pull away
